Actually the computer we use is a localhost. It may sound strange to some people those who are seeking for a right answer on internet but it is true that this ip 127.0.0.1 is local host of whatever computer you are in front of. It is actually the local ip address of your computer or loopback address that can be used as practical on networking. Many pentester or Ethical hackers use this local network to do their practical studies. As you all know that if you try any hack attack on any network or web server without a proper permission it is totally illegal and such hack attacks called black hat hacking. So ethical hackers or pentesters often try different hack techniques on this local host or local server which is totally legal and needs no permission from anyone. It is something like you are performing a hack attack on your own network or server. But before using it you have to set up your localhost if you want to try something on it.  

The word Localhost carries a special meaning in computer networking field. The localhost or loopback address is only used by the computer you are on, and only for special circumstances. Actually the localhost or 127.0.0.1 is not like the regular ip address we use to transfer files from one networked device to another networked device.  




Any web server running on a computer can also be run on 127.0.0.1 so that the pages can be run locally. In this way anything you want to test on a web server can also be tested locally. Computer network security analyzers also use this localhost to improve network security.

So hackers often say that there is no place like 127.0.0.1
